big ole charlie

i went to my doctor today and had an ultrasound. charlie is measuring at the 78th percentile and it looks like he weighs about 7 pounds 5 ounces. the ultrasound tech said the he has lots of hair!! we could see it on the ultrasound (once johnny scans them in i will post them). his head was really low and his legs were for sure right up by my right ribs :) one of his elbows was digging into my right hip too (that explains a lot!!). we saw his sweet profile and a neat view of his nose (from under it kind of).
my doctor said that after my next appointment i can schedule to be induced at 39 weeks! i won't see her next visit but she said she will check her voicemail from vacation and ok the scheduled induction.
i am excited about meeting charlie, but i am nervous about the labor and recovery. i just hope that the epidural works just as well with charlie as it did with jack! but i hope that my recovery is better with charlie than it was with jack...whew it better be!
i also hope that my knee gets better by then. i can walk on it so that is the good news. i still can not straighten it all the way, but i think that everyday i can do a little bit more with it. i am just so happy that i can go to the bathroom without help now. i am also happy that it wasn't anything major and that i am in good health. i am sooooo happy that i did not have to go on bed rest. i really don't know how the women that are do it. it is miserable to sit and watch everybody do things around you and know that you can't do it or help in any way.
johnny has seriously been awesome! he has done the dishes, the laundry, put jack to bed everynight, given jack baths, cleaned up the house, gone to the grocery (with my crazy coupon lists), come to pick me up for doctor's appointments (even though he is on a hard rotation and has to ask for some time off...he HATES to do that), played with jack and cooked dinner.

hopefully i won't ever have to repay the favor in the same way he has (like hopefully he won't hurt himself), but one day i will repay the favor by waiting on him hand and foot!! hopefully that day will be soon!! i am so proud to have such am amazing husband who cares for his family so much and never complains! he is seriously the best!!!!!

jack and pete

pete has really started to be more comfortable with jack. he doesn't put his ears back in fear anymore :) he actually barks at jack to chase him...it is so cute and funny! he especially loves jack at snack time!!

somewhat potty training

jack has done so well going on the potty lately! when i started i just did it to see how he would do and told myself that i would try hard this weekend (well since my knee injury i decided to wait for full out no diapers). anyway, while i have help here i take off his diaper and let him "go free". he knows when he needs to go and has really hardly had any accidents (really maybe just 2 and then he realized what he was doing and ran to the potty). he has gone poo poo on the potty 4 times since we started this about 2 weeks ago. the other day he ran to the potty and i said are you going pee pee and he said no poo poo. and sure enough he did! then today he ran to the potty and went poo poo! so good! i am so proud of him! now we just got to teach him how to pull down his undies so that he will wear them. he would rather let it all hang out :)

knee

this is what i have been doing for the past week! last saturday i was sitting on the floor painting pictures for jack's room and when i stood up i couldn't straighten my right knee. the pain was pretty bad (only when i would straighten it...that was a blessing). anyway, jack was in columbus for the weekend so that we could get last minute things done around the house without him here...another blessing. so saturday johnny made phone calls to his dad and andrew (house) both ER docs to see what they said they thought it was. johnny's dad thought it might be a meniscus tear, but house thought that but didn't really that it was that. sunday we went to pick up jack and sunday night kelly and house brought some crutches over for me (my first time using crutches). i learned how to use them pretty quick around the house.
monday i called my OB and asked if they could refer me to an ortho doc and they got me in to see him at 2:30. he didn't know what it was and gave me a brace to put on my knee to see if i could lock it into place and try to get it straight. i hated it so much and just felt stuck. so i wore it some but didn't wear it as much as i should have. so i called the next day and said it wasn't better so they scheduled me for am MRI for 2 days later (thursday). i couldn't get my knee straight enough for the one they sent me to so i had to go have a "real" MRI at another hospital. it wasn't that bad because my head was out of the tube. i was more worried about laying on my back for 3o minutes. i got my results friday saying that my knee looked normal...thank goodness! today i can straighten more than i have been able to....like it is almost straight with slight pain. i have walked around the den without my crutches some but it's not easy with my extra weight.

lots of people have been super nice to us the past week. i have had lots of help with jack from my friend melissa, andrea, jason, lori and of course susan. andrea and kelley have made us dinner which was so nice! johnny has been the BEST husband ever this week (he's always the BEST though). he has had to do chores, cook, take care of jack and me. he doesn't sit down until 9:30 at night for a quick breather before bed. i really don't know what i would have done without him. he seriously is the BEST EVER!!!!

the moral to the story is....don't sit on the floor at 36 weeks pregnant!!!!!

37 weeks
charlie is getting bigger and bigger....know how i can tell? he kicks my side and ribs all.the.time! he is full term today :) i am 2 cm dilated. he weighs 6 1/3 pounds and measures a bit over 19 inches, head to heel.
i have gained 42 pounds so far!!

i get to have an ultrasound next week to see how big he is.
it is getting super close to his arrival and we still have some stuff to get. not much though. we are pretty set.

birthday party

we went to eli's 3rd birthday party today. it was at the fire station (we totally want to steal the idea and do jack's birthday at a fire station...we'll see). anyway, it was lots of fun and jack had a blast!

jack and his good friend eli (not the bday boy)

he really liked the noise maker thing...especially once he figured out how to make it blow out.

lately...

this is what i have been seeing a lot of lately! i am slowly working on potty training with jack. i don't know if that is the best way to do it, but that is how i am starting out for now. saturday morning i decided to leave jack's diaper off and just let him go around bare bottom. he did great! he started to go one time and rushed to the potty.
we watched "potty power" which is probably one of the most boring movies i have ever sat through, but he really loves it.
he did great sunday and monday also. well the hours that i let him go bare bottomed. i sent him to sunday school with a diaper and to preschool with a diaper. i think the weekend after next we will try harder, but for now i am super proud of him. he has even gone poo poo on the potty twice!!

saturday night we went to la paz for dinner and then home to wash our filthy car. it was a night of firsts for jack... at la paz jack had a corn dog for the first time and loved it! then he helped us wash the car. jack did a great job listening to us about washing the car. he was a big help! he got a little wet because the hose slipped out of his hands and he just couldn't get away from the hose :) it was so funny!

our friday

jack and i went to the zoo for storytime. he really does a great job sitting and listening to the story and seems to like it. this week they brought out a snake for the kids to see. jack thought it was cool! he was really gentle with it and even tried to kiss it (yikes).

then he played in the splashpad at the zoo and had a great time. then we went to get him an icy since they are only $1 to refill our souvenir cup, but no....they stopped refilling them!! i was so sad!

after naptime jack...
drove a bus and

pushed a giant dumptruck...

as fast as he could!

then we went to chick sher lay for dinner!

34 weeks

34 weeks
charlie weighs about 4 3/4 pounds (cantaloupe) and is almost 18 inches long
i went to the doctor this week and have gained about 41 pounds so far!! haha
i gained 55 total with jack so we'll see how much i gain at the end with charlie :)

i still feel good. i am having more trouble sleeping but that's not a big deal. my ring finger is just swollen enough where i can't wear my wedding ring and not swollen enough to wear the fake one that i bought when i was pregnant with jack. so i guess i need to get another fake one so that everybody knows that i am married! it's getting hotter and hotter so being outside for more than 30 minutes is not fun!! i just feel bad because i know jack likes to go outside.

charlie moves around so much...which i love! lately i have been feeling him on each of my sides at the same time :)

grandpa, molly, and philip's visit

grandpa, molly, and philip came to visit us after jordan's wedding and before lindsey's wedding. i am thankful that we got to see some family since we have to miss out on both weddings due to me being 34 weeks pregnant and the weddings are 4-9 hours away. we hate missing the family events.

jack really enjoyed seeing them and playing with molly. the night they got here jack showed molly all of his toys and told her all about them :) it was super cute! molly was great with him and read him books which he loves!!

the boys playing with their toys!

monday afternoon after jack's nap, jack and i met grandma, molly, and emily(a little girl that grandma was babysitting) at mcwane center.

jack actually got to touch the shark!! we were basically the only people at the pool and the sharks were being super friendly.

these pj's were molly's when she was little

after jack went to bed everybody played cornhole

mama and me sprinkle

i had my sprinkle at mama and me today. i had a great time celebrating charlie! i got some really cute clothes, accessories, and lots of diapers!! everybody brought yummy food. there were A LOT of kids there today, but that's the great thing about summer! jack even got a present from eli. it was the perfect present...eli knows what other boys want :) he got a buzz lightyear toy and a big brother book that we read before naptime. i hope that he will love charlie!

this morning jack came up to me and asked "when is charlie going to be here?" this is the first time that jack has asked about charlie coming. it made my heart happy! he then said "i will teach him how to play with...and pointed to his playdoh". i said are you going to kiss him and hug him and he said yes. i know at first it will be hard but i just have this vision of my two boys playing so well together and jack teaching charlie so many things.

jack's first day of preschool

(he would NOT stand up and hold his sign)

(and then he would not let his sign go!!)

jack had his first day of preschool today!! i knew that it was going to be a very emotional morning for me. i walked jack in to meet his teachers, but when we got in there he was the first one because all the other mom's apparently do carpool. i love the idea of carpool especially when charlie gets here, but i just thought that i needed to walk him in for his first day of school! anyway, the teacher made it known (nicely) to go through carpool from now on. jack grabbed onto my shirt from the ground and said "you staying with me momma?" oh goodness, that broke my heart. i would have loved to stay with him all day long, but i knew that i just needed to pretty much walk away from my crying baby. i used to work at a day care and that was the best for the kids. they like to make their parents feel terrible and then right when they walk away they are fine. it is super hard to walk away from your own kid though!

by the time i had gotten to my car i had tears all in my eyes! i cried almost all the way home. i cried when i got home too...it was just so quiet! i made my grocery list real quick and got out as fast as i could. i spent almost 2 hours at target...that part was super nice because i didn't have to keep up with jack!

i came home, dropped off the groceries, and went to get in the carpool line. i DID NOT want to be late so i got there at 12:30 :) i was the first one in line and when they brought him to me at 1:00 he was so doggone cute! he was holding onto the teacher's hand and had his back pack on and his lunchbox in his other hand. i swear i could have just eaten him up! he smiled and said "hey momma" and then climbed up to his carseat. then his teacher buckled him up and that was it. he told me about his day (somewhat). he told me what he ate for lunch (even though i already knew about it because i packed it for him). when i would ask him a question that he didn't know how to answer or what the answer was he would say "you tell me." i would say "i can't because i wasn't there" and he said "yes you can!" haha! i got him a lightning mcqueen to celebrate his first day of preschool (we lost his other one a while ago).

when we got home we went straight back to his room and read a book. jack was asleep within .5 seconds!! he has been asleep for over 2 hours now and hasn't made a sound!! i am sure he had a blast and i am excited for him to make new friends!

hopefully i can hold myself together on wednesday for his second day of school :)

getting ready for charlie

we had a great weekend! we got so much accomplished. i am feeling better about charlie coming into this world now that we have his bed set up and most of his room done.my parents came to watch jack during our baby shower and to paint charlie's room. thanks to mom and dad for everything!! i think we had a great weekend and i know jack enjoyed having them here:)

at the very hot farmer's market (my parents loved it though)

thuy did a great job organizing our baby shower. it was fun to have johnny there with me!!

thuy made the diaper cake!!!

we bought a pool for jack (my dad and johnny went to get it from walmart and instead of folding it or tying it to the roof they just put it on the roof of the highlander and held onto it with their hands). i hope that this is the winner for us. we have been through 4 pools already. the blow up pools just don't work for us. anyway, andrea got this one for clara and my friend sarah got it for her 2 boys. it is great for our yard because we don't have a completely level area and this one somewhat levels out because it is hard plastic.

pete was a little hot...can you tell??

mom watched jack in the pool while i showed dad and johnny where to put the furniture.
when jack came in he was fine for a bit, but when he saw that the chair was out of his room he lost it! jack does not like change when he can see it happening. that is why we tried to do everything while he was swimming. he got over it pretty quick. he still is a little confused as to why i am changing him in charlie's room, but no more tears have been shed!

so here is charlie's room so far...

close up

i have washed and washed and washed! he is set until he is 1 :) this is just newborn to 6 months and half of the clothes are folded up :)

splash pad

saturday we went to the splash pad with robby, andrea, and clara. jack had a blast! clara had fun, but she didn't want to get in the water. we brought a picnic for lunch. i can't wait to go back!

jack did not want to stay still for a picture...he loved the water!

jack especially loved to shoot with the water gun

we had a war!!
